In the hostel in Karakol I spontaneously decided to walk to Lake Ala-Kul. Three days, 51 kilometres, more than 2,000 metres of ascent – and on the second day almost everyone turned back.

The route: from Karakol up to the yurt camp, on day two over the pass to the turquoise mountain lake at around 3,500 metres and down to Altyn Arashan with its hot springs, on day three out to Ak-Suu.

Only the accommodation was booked. I planned the tour myself and walked it alone – which doesn't mean I didn't meet anyone.
